Why We Love Kid by Phillip Lim

With a new ecommerce site up and running, the fashion world darling cultivates his styles for the younger set

By now, you’ve probably heard of Phillip Lim. Bargain-hunters fondly recall his Uniqlo collaboration in 2007 (the same year his empire expanded to include menswear and accessories); film buffs surely caught his acclaimed 2011 short film, Weavers; and fashionistas can recognize his signature elegance from a mile away. Now, thanks to this month’s launch of 31philliplim.com, we’ll know him better yet.

Here at Elizabeth Street, we’re especially in love with Lim’s kids wears (surprise, surprise), as his mini leather jackets, breezy cropped sweaters, and soft tank dresses strike the perfect balance between pragmatic versatility and childhood whimsy. And while some of the looks are already available in the kids’ section of several stores worldwide we love seeing them within the frame of Lim’s minimally designed, maximally stylish site (which offers the largest selection of the Spring 2012 line).  —Lucie Alig
