Why We Love Chewbeads
This collection of chic chewable jewelry for stylish moms with teething babies is completely genius
When you become a mom, one of the first things to go is your daily wear of fabulous jewelry. Teething babies love to chomp on pretty much anything they can get their gums onto, making those innocent looking charm necklaces a serious choking hazard. Most moms choose to go jewelry-free when they’re with their little munchkins, making their outfits a whole lot less interesting. Enter Chewbeads, a colorful and cool collection of non-toxic chewable jewelry made from gum-friendly silicone. “I used to—and still do—wear "statement" necklaces and I couldn't wear them without my son putting them in his mouth,” says founder Lisa Greenwald, who cut her own teeth in the fashion industry and J. Crew and Club Monaco. “It was so amazing to see the intrigue and interest that babies had in whatever was around my neck. I used to just say to myself ‘why doesn't someone just come up with a necklace that they can chew on?!’— so I did!”
Our faves are the Hudson necklaces and Charles bangles. Not to worry if your little one is past the teething stage. Many moms still rock their Chewbeads long after the teeth have come in. No one has to know where your jewelry has been! —Melissa Schweiger
