Summer Skin Must-Haves
Warm weather is finally here! Is your skin ready?
I have two summer skin mottos, and the first one is “serve and protect.” After years of soaking up rays as a teenager and in my twenties, now all I want to do is save my skin from harm and prevent more fine lines and wrinkles. I douse my sons in vats of SPF before leaving the house and always take care to do the same for myself. That said, I still like the look of sun-kissed skin, even if I try my hardest not to let any kissing-of-the-sun actually happen. For that, I rely on my second motto: “fake it ‘til you make it.” A great self-tanner and a bronzer for the cheeks gets me through the summer looking glowy and summery, even if my actual skin is a shade slightly paler than alabaster. This might be the most lightweight sunscreen I’ve ever used. Most mineral sunscreens leave a white film behind or a sticky feeling. Not so with this one. I apply it on my face after my moisturizer and before my makeup. It glides on easily and provides serious sun protection. It’s no surprise this wonder product garnered a Best of Beauty award from Allure.
Thanks to two rambunctious boys under the age of four, I have zero time to actually do my face these days, so I rely on products that do the heavy lifiting for me. This no-fuss cream bronzer goes on with the swipe of a finger and seamlessly blends into cheeks. The result? A lovely bronze shade that leaves my skin looking healthy and naturally glowy.
Self-tanner is usually one of those things I shy away from. But then I discovered this streak-free body bronzer from Dermaquest. It uses erythrulose, a sugar found in raspberries rather than DHA, to turn the skin into a nice and natural looking shade of bronze. I gave this one a test drive before breaking out the shorts and am happy to report my legs were among the bronzest on the playground. One application tip: make sure to rub your self-tanner in really well in between the toes.
