New Year, New Look

I have a secret only my close friends know: I am not chic. I really do try to look pulled together, but it’s a façade. Thank God for Giorgio Armani Face Fabric makeup and Instagram filters—they’re what keep me looking awake and alive most days! After a month of two sick babies and multiple trips to the hospital for ear infections, though, Mama needs a makeover. So today, I headed over to the Marie Robinson Salon.

As I walked there, I wondered how to talk to the stylist about getting a “mom hairstyle.” Of course, I couldn’t ask for a “mom hairstyle”—that evokes images of minivans, mom jeans, and empty juice boxes. I may not be very cool, but I’m still young, and I want to feel current yet classic.

Enter the experts at Marie Robinson. Colorist Amy Huson and stylist Abby Swan knew what they were doing. Amy changed my hair color from drab Oldsmobile brown (with a few grays hiding in there) to a warm, gold-highlighted chestnut. Amy used a method called balayage to “paint” on my highlights. This method allows you to skip constant trips to the salon, because the color will fade as it grows out, allowing for a natural look. With Abby, I discussed my need for a manageable style. She worked with my natural texture to come up with a cut that would minimize my style time—a mid-length, grown-out bob with subtle layers.

Marie Robinson herself is a new mom and, in my opinion, the hair color whisperer. She was kind enough to give me some special words of wisdom about being a mom on the go with fabulous hair. She recommended a color gloss for achieving that gloriously shiny pregnancy hair we all miss, specifically ColoristCure deep conditioning hair treatment, as it adds shine, body, and life to hair.
