In My Closet: Sonia Beconcini
Elizabeth Street visits a glamorous mom and daughter duo in Florence
A chic house furnished in classic blacks and whites with lots of mirrors, is tucked away in one of the most beautiful places in the world: The countryside town of Fiesole, a few miles from the center of Florence. Here Elizabeth Street met Sonia Beconcini, Davide Facchini, and their six-year-old daughter Evita. A glamorous home if we’ve ever seen one, and fitting for the couple, who are fashion designers and have worked on women’s and children’s collections. Apart from designing for illustrious names such as Calvin Klein Jeans, Bebe, and Pinko, they design for their own company Industrie W.
We spoke to Sonia and her adorable little girl at an opportune moment while taking a peek into their closets. “I love casual pieces, like a great denim or motorcycle jacket paired with something sexier, like an embellished top. When it comes to Evita, I don’t want her dressing like a grown-up. I put her in youthful, romantic dresses that we pair with fun, colorful accessories,” say Sonia. It becomes apparent from watching this mother-daughter duo play dress up that Sonia and Evita have a special bond. Although the little one can throw a pretty mean tantrum: “She never lets me brush her hair,” mom says with a resigned smile. Apparently even the best mother-daughter relationship has its little (yet adorable) dramas! —Veronica Russo
