Ashton (Chris!) Kutcher's Brilliant Parenting Advice
OK, we'll admit it: we totally watched the 2013 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. We've got to keep up with the kids, ya know? In addition to being dazzled by the dancing prowess of Harry Styles, we were totally wowed by, and are still thinking about, Ashton Kutcher's super-smart, heartfelt acceptance speech for the Ultimate Choice Award (or as he jokingly called it 'the Old Guy award').
After revealing that his given name is actually Chris (Ashton is his middle name, which he started using at 19 when his acting career took off), Kutcher went on to reveal his three strategies for achieving success-- brilliant nuggets of wisdom that we, as parents, think are genius advice to pass on to our kids. Our favorite quotes go something like this:
1. "Opportunity looks a lot like work." Kutcher went on to discuss his first jobs washing dishes and sweeping in a factory, and how each post was a stepping stone to his next career move.
2. "The sexiest thing in the entire world is being really smart." AMEN! Kutcher also extols the virtues of being generous and thoughtful.
3. "Everything around us that we call life was made up by people that are no smarter than you are. Build a life."
We guess all that time he spent with Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah taught him a thing or two about being a parent, huh? Watch the video here to hear it all. And pre-order your tickets for Jobs, because we're pretty sure it's going to blow our minds.
