Just in time for the big summer games, talk to your little ones about the rich history and inspiring universality of the world Olympics
The games of the Olympiad, as it was known in ancient times, are where the fiercest come to test their endurance, stamina, and strength in a series of sports to compete for the elusive gold medal. Over the centuries, the Olympic Games have come to symbolize the spirit of camaraderie and stands as a platform to strengthen the bonds of international relations. And the idea that most nations of the world tune in their radio or television sets to cheer on their country is a refreshing break from the onslaught of mostly negative news.
So with the Olympic Games kicking off today, all mothers should be inclined to explain importance of this sports spectacle, and its impact on the zeitgest. The competition might be just what your little one needs, as they watch and admire the idols of their preferred sport: LeBron James shooting free throws, Roger Federer acing serves or Usein Bolt zooming past his competition. With practice, perseverance, and the right footwear, the younger set can aspire to have the speed of Usein or the skill of LeBron. Whether it’s a basketball shoe from Adidas, a running shoe from Puma, or a tennis shoe from Bensimon, these sportswear brands are very much in tune with the universality and sportsmanship that the Olympics represents. With a little bit of Olympic history from mom, get their interests peaked, their shoes tied up, and their excitement in gear, which is surely a step in the right direction! —Barry Samaha
