KAREN KIMMEL

OCCUPATION: In addition to Kimmel Kids, my line of children’s art tools, I’m a creative consultant to several clothing brands, am working on a major interior design project, and organizing a family weekend program at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs called Crafting Community.

MY STYLE: I’ve been going through a Topanga-meets-postmodernism/minimalism phase. The outcome is curated comfort with a nod to classic California style.

I LOVE LA BECAUSE: It is a true combo platter—you can be surfing, hiking, or getting your park on, and hit up a museum for an opening the same night. The true luxury of living in Los Angeles is outdoor access 24-7.

Scoops

Karen Kimmel makes sure to come every week because of its small, manageable size and great produce selection. Many of the vendors are favorites from bigger markets in Santa Monica and Hollywood—sans crowd.

Big red banquettes, black-and-white-tiled floors, and beautiful period fixtures throughout are second only to the consistently tasty homestyle food. Dishes not to miss: Italian wedding soup, rice balls, roasted zucchini and eggplant with burrata, fried-oyster sandwich, ricotta gnocchi with wild boar ragù.
