This intimate restaurant in the hipster neighborhood of Williamsburg is also surprisingly family-friendly. The decor features odd geometric shapes that are fun for kids, and according to Brooklyn mom Julia Chaplin, “the waiters are very playful and make [my two-year-old daughter] Tuesday feel sophisticated and grown-up. They constantly bring her fun things to munch on, like cups of ice.” Isa’s simple, Italian-influenced pared-down fare is family friendly. A wood-burning oven makes everything taste rustic, and crowd-pleasing pasta dishes are always on the list.

East River State Park
This seven-acre park in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood is known by locals as the Waterfront and is made up simply of concrete, grass, a dock, and a stage. But altogether, this spot is more than the sum of its parts. On summer Saturdays, the concrete area is crowded with sellers of vintage goods, and on the weekends, Brooklyn’s most buzzed-about food vendors descend on the concrete area and transform it into the weekly food fair called Smorgasburg. The park is also a venue for many of the biggest acts that pass through New York. And every day, families flock to the green space for views of the Manhattan skyline.

Central Park Zoo
It’s easy to miss the zoo among the 843 acres of park that surround it, but to do so would be to pass up sightings of sea lions, snow leopards, exotic birds, and a wealth of other species not typically associated with the five boroughs. Check the zoo’s website for a list of exhibitions, current attractions and activities, and don’t miss a walk through the Tisch Children’s Zoo—a compact nature trail with a playground, a feeding station and a duck blind for the secret observation of pond animals.
