I LOVE LA BECAUSE: It’s a great city for kids. There's so much to do outdoors, what with the wonderful parks and beaches. I love the sprawling nature of the city, its various neighborhoods and the warm climate. I'm a Los Angeles native and I love the city's “live and let live” attitude.
California Science Center
Located in downtown Los Angeles, the California Science Center is a free institution hosting hundreds of exhibits, an IMAX movie theater, and a “Fun Lab” featuring hands-on games and activities that teach about science. Aliza Pressman loves to come here with her five and two year-olds: “The Museum of Science has such fun interactive indoor science and nature exhibits, and it is never crowded,” she says. Currently home to the ambitious and incredible exhibition Space Shuttle Endeavour, whose permanent home at the museum is still in the works. The retired NASA rocket is on display with an accompanying film exhibit that documents its construction and voyages. Visitors come away raving at the size and complexity of the machine. With free museum admission, a trip to the California Science Center is a no-brainer for the whole family.

This kid's center offers classes, birthday parties, summer camps, and activities for kids ages zero to six. The staff is nice and reliable, and the great themed birthday parties are especially popular among Los Angeles parents. It's a wonderful resource!

Coldwater Canyon Park
Christine Simon calls this park "one of the prettiest, most kid-friendly in [Los Angeles]." With hiking trails, a small stream running through it, and lots of comfy spots to place a picnic, it's the perfect place to have a day trip. Leashed dogs are allowed, and there are areas with jungle gyms, too.
