Mom's Little Helper: Baby Food Delivery
A crop of new delivery services bring fresh and wholesome baby food directly to your doorstep
Homemade baby food typically falls into the category of “wish I could do it, but who has the time?” And as much as we love the convenience and portability of organic baby food pouches, they don’t quite measure up against a home-cooked purée. So what’s a time-pressed mom to do? Call in for delivery! We’ve found four startup delivery services across the country that cook up seasonal, farm-fresh ingredients for tiny tots and deliver them to your doorstep all year round.
Started by two Manhattan moms, Petit Organics pride themselves on delivering simple and delicious purées (for ages four through seven months) and blends (for eight months and older) of the variety you wish you could make at home. All food is handmade and packaged less than 24 hours before it gets to you. Each delivery comes with enough food for three days, with very generous portions. We couldn’t get enough of the peach oat and maple blend and neither could our little one. For now, Petit Organics is only delivering to Manhattan.
This Austin, Texas-based company’s baby meals range from simple one-ingredient purées, such as butternut squash and green pea to more sophisticated fare for more advanced eaters, including curried zucchini bites with raisins and quinoa. Whirled Peas only delivers within Austin, Texas.
The mom behind this Los Angeles–based food delivery services wanted to feed their kids top quality food. Their meals are healthy twists on kid staples. Ingredients are organic, cage-free, and grass-fed. Most meals have a veggie hidden in the mix, like pizza with fresh string beans or mac and cheese with broccoli or sweet potato. They started catering pre-school lunches for moms who loathe making lunch for their kids but are not into the less than healthy options most schools provide. They’ll deliver fresh meals within their L.A. zone or you can order their meals frozen anywhere in the U.S.
Sourced from farms in the New York region, Brooklyn-based Farm to Baby delivers delicious combos of seasonal produce mixed with oats and grains. We gave the service a test run and ended up eating one of the jars of apples mixed with emmer (an ancient grain) ourselves. We also loved the reusable glass jars that they conveniently pick up after you’re finished. You can sign up for one of three subscription plans, including Sit (ages four through eight months), Crawl (ages eight through ten months) and Toddle (ten months and older). Sample menu items include lavender poached pears, beans with basil and garlic and spelt risotto and summer squash. Farm to Baby delivers to Manhattan and Brooklyn only.
