In Their Room with Hillary Thomas
Interior designer Hillary Thomas settled into her historic Old Ranch Road home in Brentwood a few years ago, and used much of what she already had to decorate her new space. “My taste is very collected and layered. I don’t like things to look too decorated,” says this mother of two. Hilary's children’s rooms, with their intimate, often heirloom décor and comfortable fabrics (designed by their mom, of course!), are a perfect reflection of the design philosophy she employed for her mid-century modern home. —Laura Eliza Carroll Photos by Gabriel Goldberg
Lucy’s desk is made by Twenty Guage, a company that custom paints old steel furniture. The lamps, meanwhile, are passed down from Hillary’s mother.
Hillary found the “No Boys Allowed” in Martha’s Vineyard and promptly shipped it to her house. “I thought it was the cutest thing ever, and I found it a home.”
Hillary came home to find this collage on Lucy’s wall – a collection of her favorite photos and artwork.
Large monogrammed pillows – these ones from Hillary Thomas Designs – add a big and personal impact to the room.
Charlie's Room. The Philippe Stark carpet followed the Thomas’s from their old home. Hillary simply cut it down to fit Charlie’s new space.
Hillary matched her son Charlie’s furniture to the house, adding a mid-century modern credenza and covering it with photos for a homey feel.
