Giuliana Rancic describes the moment her son was born as the best of her life

For years, Giuliana Rancic has been impressing fans with her warmth and honesty, especially with regard to her health struggles—first with breast cancer, and then with fertility. That's why, she, her husband, Bill, and many Americans were thrilled with the birth of baby Duke! Rancic says she was there for the birth and that it's been love ever since! She's one busy mama, though. In addition to navigating the first-time parenting waters, Rancic, the daughter of a tailor, is also enjoying the launch of her clothing line, G by Giuliana Rancic.  

Tell us about Duke’s birth. 
It was the best moment of my life. Since I was not the one delivering the baby, we had to plan accordingly. Bill and I were in the room the entire time and when Duke was born, I took him in my arms and put him against my chest for skin-to-skin contact. Bill cut the umbilical cord. When I looked into his eyes for the first time, nothing else mattered. It was truly a magical experience and one that I will never forget. We finally got our wish to have a baby!

What was it that made you want to be so open about your experience with surrogacy?
I’ve always been very open about my life and health struggles, from fertility treatments to my breast cancer diagnosis, because I truly want to spread awareness and help others. I’m so fortunate to have an incredible platform on E! News, Fashion Police and Giuliana & Bill, and I feel like it would be a waste not to use it platform for good. If sharing my story helps and gives hope to even one person, then it’s worth it. Sharing our decision to use a gestational carrier was no different. 

Did you spend a lot of time fretting over your surrogate's habits, what she was eating, breathing, and doing, that would affect your growing baby? How did you control those feelings?
I was very nervous at first, but after meeting her, I was instantly at ease. She was completely forthcoming and that helped Bill and me a lot. She was so incredible throughout the entire process and Bill and I will be forever grateful. I like to say that we hit the gestational carrier jackpot!

What's the best parenting advice you've received so far?
Enjoy every moment because it goes by fast.

Will you be teaching your son Italian?
Of course! My Italian heritage is very important to me. I usually speak to my parents in Italian so it may be something Duke picks up just by hearing us interact. He will be spending a lot of time with my parents too, so I'm sure they will be happy to give him lessons!  Who knows? Maybe his first word will be "pasta!"

So many new and exciting things for you all at once! Tell us about your new line, G by Giuliana Rancic.
I’ve always loved clothes. My father, Eduardo DePandi, has been an expert tailor his entire life and I grew up hanging out and watching him work at his shop in Maryland.  And of course, covering the red carpet has deepened my appreciation for fashion. Since I’m so passionate about it, when Tiger J approached me about collaborating on a clothing line I said yes without hesitation. And when I learned that we'd be working with HSN, I was speechless! 

Who did you have in mind when you created this line? 
When I first started to brainstorm, I wanted to make sure that it was accessible to all women.  The sizes range from XS to XXL and each piece is extremely affordable without skimping on quality or style. I didn't want to create a line that only worked on a certain body type or was financially impractical. I think there are pieces in my collection for all women. In fact, you can build an entirely new wardrobe from my line alone. I am really proud of how it has turned out and hope women across the country love it as much as I do!
