The Benefits of Morning Sex Might Surprise You
As someone who looks forward to that first cup o' joe as I'm going to sleep the night before, the thought that morning sex could be more energizing than coffee has me very skeptical. After all, coffee is all about the comfort of a routine, the warmth of the mug in your hand, and taking those few precious moments to sip in peace (even if said sipping takes place at your desk).
But if you think about it, sex with your partner is equally as comforting, it's definitely warm (actually, hot!), and it's time where even your Blackberry is out of reach. But can that morning romp be as energizing as a boost of caffeine?
According to Debby Herbenick, Ph.D., author of Because It Feels Good, the benefits of morning sex are on par with the healthy perks of coffee. Sex is proven to be good for your heart, halving your risk of heart attack and stroke if performed three times a week (take note, husbands!). It's also great exercise in that your heartbeat raises from an average of 70 beats a minute to 150 beats during intercourse. Along the same lines, coffee may have health benefits, such as protecting against Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes and liver cancer. And it has a high content of antioxidants.
In terms of energy, coffee is a no-brainer. It boosts energy levels and focus. But what about sex? Eva Cwynar, M.D., had this to say about a morning roll in the hay: "Sex produces endorphins, the body's feel-good hormones which help give you an energy boost and stabilize your mood for the rest of the day."
