Baby Shower Checklist: Everything You Need to Know

There are so many things that a mom-to-be looks forward to when preparing for a baby. From decorating the nursery to registering for all of your baby's needs, there’s a lot to get excited about. But one of the most special times during those nine months is the gathering of friends to celebrate the mom-to-be and her little bundle of joy at the baby shower.

We've thrown our fair share of baby showers here at Big City Moms and although there’s much preparation and planning involved in the event, there’s nothing greater than seeing the joyous faces of the expectant moms. If you’re planning a baby shower for a special mom-to-be in your life, we have a great baby shower checklist to help you along the way. Click through the slideshow to see our baby shower checklist. —Risa Goldberg and Leslie Venokur, Big City Moms

LET THE INVITATIONS SET THE THEME FOR THE SHOWER. The first thing in baby shower checklist is selecting the theme. Whether you’re picking out special colors, characters, or patterns, choose something that reflects the personality of the mom-to-be. The invitations set the tone of your party so make sure that they coincide with your theme. And when filling out the invitations be sure to include where the guest of honor is registered.

PLAN ACTIVITIES DURING THE PARTY. Always keep your guests in mind when planning these fun baby shower activities. If they love to be pampered, offer manicures with the colors that match the decor. If they are crafty, jewelry-making is always a hit. You can buy beads in bulk online or head over to your local craft store. Guests have a sweet tooth? Set up a candy bar with some of your favorite sweet treats and have your guests fill up their own candy bag. The candy bag is just as important as the candy display. You can purchase fun candy bags here or personalized stickers here. Decorating cupcakes or making your own sundaes are always fun to do and will even satisfy the mom-to-be's sweet craving.

CHECK OUT PINTEREST. Pinterest is loaded with creative themes and ideas that will help you with planning a baby shower. One of our favorite things to do before planning a baby shower is to scope out the site for inspiration—whether it's a theme or a fun food idea, Pinterest always leaves us with great ideas to help us plan a fantastic baby shower.

HAVE FUN WITH DECORATIONS. Decorating for the party can be fun. Explore your creative side and plan a shower that the mom-to-be will always remember. These quick and easy ideas will make you look like a party-planning pro:

- Use Chinese lanterns to decorate for easy pops of color.
- Colored paper straws let guests sip their drinks in style.
- Try old-fashioned sundae cups to house your straws or cutlery.
- Mason jars can be used for just about everything—from vases to drinking glasses to storage jars and more.
- Personalized stickers and signs are such a fun and easy way to really make the guest of honor   feel special.
- Cupcake toppers are always so fun to add something extra to your cupcakes! Check out   Etsy.com for a variety of cute cupcake toppers.
