Family Vacation Destinations: Mustique

For families looking for the most exclusive and relaxing vacations, Mustique is just the destination for you. This tiny, private island paradise in the Grenadines boasts luxurious settings that few other places can match.

For Warly Tomei, a London-based mom and event planner, Mustique is her family’s favorite holiday spot, where she describes everyone as “super friendly." And the mostly hotel- and restaurant-free island is a place where she can totally let go of city life. “There are properties for rent, but there are no restaurants. So you all eat at home or take a picnic to the beach,” says Tomei. “There's something for everyone to do though: beautiful beaches and watersports for the kids. Plus, it is so safe and relaxing.”

The privacy and luxury afforded by this destination is something that many celebrities have come here for again and again. But it is the royal family that has a special link to the island. Princess Margaret was given a ten-acre estate here in the '60s, and Mustique was the babymoon destination of choice for expectant parents Will and Kate, back when the Duchess was four months pregnant with baby George. Rock royalty also have homes on the island; both David Bowie and Mick Jagger call the white-sand beaches home (at least for a few weeks out of the year).
