MY STYLE: My busy lifestyle means that I must be able to "live" in my clothes. But I love to add a bit of color. Favorites include Tom Ford, Lanvin, Stella McCartney (for me and the kids), Chloé, and Etro.
I LOVE HONG KONG BECAUSE: Everything is at your fingertips. It's a Metropolitan city full of life, culture, cuisine, and fun. Having grown up in San Francisco, I am used to the "melting pot" atmosphere, which Hong Kong also embraces. It's a business hub, but it's also great for families. Whether you're shopping for luxury brands or going to a neighborhood park, everything is just a short car ride away.
Hong Kong Heritage Museum
Regardless of your personal legacy, you’ll find something to relate to at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Exhibitions include the T.T. Tsui Gallery of Chinese Art (think jade and bronze figurines, and Chinese ceramics), the Cantonese Opera Hall, and an interactive display of historic toys. “It’s great for Hannah and Jonah to learn about the city’s history,” says Winnie Young. “Plus, the museum has an arts and crafts room, so the kids can make something to bring home.”
Gucci Kids
The gilded teddy bear logo says it all—Gucci Kids offers clothes that are both cuddly and refined. In summer 2010, Gucci expanded its empire to include a sophisticated children’s line under the direction of Frida Giannini. In addition to denim jumpsuits, fleece rompers, and ruffled corduroy jackets, the line also includes adorable “junior handbags” with the brand’s signature double-G canvas and green and red handles.
Leonidas
Greek confectioner Leonidas Kestekides travelled to Brussels and Ghent in the ’40s, where he perfected the art of his rich yet delicate chocolates. Today, at Leonidas stores across the world, chocoholics can get their fix by the pound, by the truffle, or in pre-packaged gift baskets. “Leonidas is well known for their Belgian candies, but the hot chocolate is a best kept secret,” says Winnie Young. When ordering this steamy drink, you can choose between the original recipe and “Manon Blanc”—both go perfectly with biscuits.
Discovery Learning Academy
Inspired by the teachings of Swiss child development expert Jean Piaget, Winnie Young’s Discovery Learning Academy (DLA) fosters knowledge and fun through guided discovery. DLA classes range from speech therapy to "Mini Super Chef," arts & crafts, and young performers. “Right now I’m helping the drama kids put on a nursery rhyme medley musical!” says Young. What’s more, a portion of all paid tuitions goes into the DLA fund, which enables the academy to offer programming to low-income families free of charge.
The Four Seasons Hong Kong
Earning a reputation as one of Hong Kong's finest hotels is, in a city known for attracting sophisticated travellers, no easy feat.
